Family Holidays in Portugal – The Best New Destinations & Stays 2025
When it comes to tailor-made travel, Portugal is currently one of Europe’s most in-demand destinations. The north, with Porto and the Douro Valley, is on the rise, while in our favourite corner south of Lisbon – from Comporta and Melides to the Costa Vicentina and the Alentejo – things are moving fast. Here, we’ve rounded up a few new gems, perfect for individual travellers, families and groups of friends, that are well worth discovering.

Castelo Ventoso, Alentejo
Just outside up-and-coming Évora, Castelo Ventoso is an ultra-chic countryside estate set within the walls of a former monastery. It’s the kind of place that feels both timeless and contemporary: sweeping golden views over the Alentejo fields, a private padel court, swimming pool, and interiors that balance refinement with laid-back style. With space for up to 16 guests, it’s perfect for family gatherings. A private chef or curated experiences can be arranged on request, while co-host Victoria opens doors to a network of local artists and makers that bring an authentic Alentejo flavour to your stay.

Casa Fortunato, Alcácer do Sal
Tucked into the charming riverside village of Alcácer do Sal, this elegant townhouse offers a chic yet calming base for exploring one of Portugal’s most up-and-coming destinations. Just a short drive from Comporta, Setúbal, and Lisbon, it’s ideally placed for both countryside tranquillity and coastal adventures. Hosts Filipa and her team can arrange everything from catamaran sailing trips and surf lessons to private chefs and bespoke experiences – Casa Fortunato is the perfect backdrop for families and friends to slow down together.

Porto – Portugal’s Rising Star
Few cities are evolving as quickly – or as stylishly – as Porto. Known for its historic streets and riverfront views, the city is now pulsing with a vibrant gastronomic scene and fresh creative energy. Young chefs, new concepts, and boutique hotels are opening one after another, transforming Porto into one of Portugal’s most exciting urban destinations.
Among the latest highlights: Hospes Infante Sagres, Porto’s first five-star hotel, now reimagined with jewel tones, plunge-pool terraces, and sumptuous interiors – and also one of the most family-friendly options, thanks to its spacious rooms and welcoming service. The Rebello and Tivoli Kopke bring industrial chic to historic port wine cellars, with Douro views and rooftop terraces included. Gran Cruz House pairs riverside charm with playful port-wine–inspired décor and standout local cuisine, while The Largo offers a modern, design-forward boutique stay right in the heart of the city’s vibrant cultural scene.
Porto is no longer just a city stopover – it’s a destination in its own right, and ideally combined with a beach break on the Costa Verde or a journey through the rolling vineyards of the Douro Valley.

Comporta – So Much in Motion
There’s a lot happening in Comporta right now, making it one of the most exciting corners of Portugal’s coastline. Long beloved for its blend of bohemian charm and understated luxury, the region is seeing a flurry of new openings: Sublime Comporta is expanding with additional villas to its boutique hotel; Six Senses has announced a landmark resort between Comporta and Melides, set to open in 2028; and the most talked-about newcomer, Na Praia, is slated to open in 2026 directly on the dunes near Comporta village – a super-chic beachfront hideaway by hospitality visionary José Uva, owner of Sao Lourenco do Barrocal and mastermind behind Estúdio Lisboa.
Amid all this buzz, not every project lives up to the hype, but some clearly stand out. One of our current favourites is our stunning Villa Unica in Pego Comporta for up to eight guests, designed for year-round living. Inside, refined interiors meet comfort and functionality: a master bedroom suite with dressing area, a luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower, and three further double bedroom suites. A fully equipped office, an inviting fireplace, and a dining room for ten add both practicality and style.
Outdoors, the villa embodies the essence of Comporta living: a swimming pool with pool house and bar, an outdoor fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen with BBQ and pizza oven set the stage for relaxed family gatherings. The alfresco dining area seats up to 16, while deck chairs, parasols, and sunbeds invite long, lazy afternoons. For recreation, there’s a ping-pong table and bicycles available on request. Thoughtful details such as air-conditioned bedrooms, beach towels, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a Sonos sound system make every moment effortless. With its seamless connection to nature and ultra-refined design, this villa is a Comporta haven for families, friends, and anyone seeking a stylish escape.
