In winter and spring, when the air is still cold and clear, but the first rays of sunshine already warm the skin, the Baltic coast has a special charm. Few tourists, wild beaches and plenty of wide-open spaces to really take a deep breath. Just two hours from Hamburg, in Hohen Wieschendorf, Bades Huk resort is located. With 77 apartments, a small hotel and an 18-hole golf course open all year round with an adjacent bird and nature reserve. The ideal place for our family for a weekend in nature and away from home.
The red apartment houses rise unmistakably from the dune landscape. Our son is thrilled and immediately gets out his digging equipment. The next morning after getting up, I grab a coffee, slip into my rubber boots and winter jacket and head to the beach. It's wonderful, we collect stones and shells and then warm up with a delicious breakfast at the Marina Café overlooking Wismar Bay. Salmon rolls, crab salad, scrambled eggs and hot choclate make a perfects start into a sunny Baltic Sea day.
Although a cozy day in the apartment would also be tempting. The kitchen in the apartment is so well equipped that we immediately feel at home and only regret a little that we have not yet bought properly to be able to cook properly here. The floor heating invites to open the play corner on the floor and the spacious bathroom with rainforest shower becomes our personal spa. Furnished are the Scandinavian-style apartments in soft gray tones, with lots of wood and turquoise details.
It will be especially cozy in the spacious relaxation corners with rocking chair, sofa and large TV screen. If you fall in love with the decorative objects during your stay, you can buy salt shakers, vases and blankets in the hotel's own store. It is noticeable that the furnishings have been selected with great attention to detail. In addition to the comfortable living and sleeping area, the apartments have their own washing machine. For families staying longer, definitely a great relief.
For children, the way to the beach holds a special surprise: Namely, one passes the playground and can borrow sand toys from a well-stocked box. The playground borders directly on the golf course and the bird sanctuary and blends harmoniously with nature. Especially beautiful is a walk along the path above the Baltic Sea, which is wildly overgrown with branches. For us it goes afterwards first into the bio sauna. After that, we all go together in the Marina Café to eat fresh waffles and let the day end relaxed.
Our insider tips for a stay at Bades Huk:
Reception and resort shop: At the end of the car park is the reception and shop. The small shop is well equipped. Here you can find magazines, coffee, milk, eggs and everything for a relaxing stay. The range also includes design objects and Rituals beauty sets from the flats. Bread rolls can be pre-ordered for the next morning on request. Water and coffee capsules or filter coffee are best bought directly at check-in.
Children: On the way to the beach, you pass directly through the playground. It borders the bird sanctuary and is very naturally designed with lots of wood. Sand toys can be borrowed from a box in front of the playground. There are play collections on the flats. Additional children's books can be borrowed in the lobby of the Marina Hotel.
Dining and food: the equipment of the flats is of very high quality. The kitchen is equipped with WMF cutlery, sharp knives and a good selection of pots. So it makes sense and is also fun to cook for yourself. At the hotel restaurant Little Italy, you should bring some time and toys for the children. The Italian restaurant is solid and offers the typical dishes: pizza, pasta, etc. The hotel breakfast in the Marina Café can be booked in advance and includes a lovely buffet. During the day, you can get small lunch snacks, rice pudding, waffles and homemade cakes at the café.
Other tips in the area: For families, the Old Warehouse of Gramkow Manor House sounds very nice. Here you can sit in the garden in spring and watch chickens, sheep and rabbits or go pony riding. It is open from April. The estate can be reached by bicycle.
In Café Lindquist in Boltenhagen you can warm up at the Swedish round stove. The Scandinavian café is located directly at the beach promenade and is famous for smörrebröd and Finnish chocolate cake.
