Hotel Heureka in Venice, Italy
An inspiring new hotel to impress even Venice connoisseurs
There are innumerable housing options in Venice, but there are a rare few that make you want to spend the whole day there. And even fewer that you’d return to time and again. The newly opened Hotel Heureka takes guests back to another era, welcoming them with a warmth and generosity that one only dreams of in a hotel.
The Hotel Heureka is located in the Sestiere Cannaregio, far away from the tourist hordes and knick-knack shops, yet this neighboring area to Castello is the most densely populated in Venice. Many locals live here – the former Jewish ghetto Nuovo is just a stone’s throw away and the lively Fondamente della Misericordia with its numerous bars and cafes is a magnet for students, artists and young Venetians. Another highlight for cultural events and exhibitions is the newly renovated Scuola Grande della Misericordia – its impressive architecture alone is worth a visit. In Cannaregio you feel both at home, yet also far away. It is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Venetian life, to begin a journey through time along lonely canals and over romantic bridges. Have an Aperitivo in the cherished wine bar Vino Vero, followed by dinner in the cherished restaurant Anice Stellato. What a blessing, that there is now a new hotel to cherish nestled in this old district.
The Heureka is a lavishly and generously modernised ten room hotel, located in a rather inconspicuous 16th century palazzo. It is quite unusual to find such thorough renovations in Venice. Each of the ten rooms is decorated individually with a creative mix of old and new – shiny velvets and playful Lacroix patterns, sparkling Murano chandeliers, bold colors, and expressive paintings by young artist Julian Khol. The owners have realised their dream here: there is a music room with a grand piano, a library with a chess table and two very spacious and elegantly furnished salons. Eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice are served on the sun-drenched breakfast terrace of the garden, which is populated by palms, oleander and other mature trees. The courteous staff speaks Italian, English and German.
Early in the morning you are awakened by the bells of the Chiesa della Madonna dell`Orto. One of the most beautiful churches in Venice, and just a few blocks away, it houses some of the most famous paintings of the Venetian painter Tintoretto.
In the luxury boutique hotel Heureka, the charm and heart of old Venice are preserved, yet no effort and expense have been spared to bring the old Palazzo completely up to date. The first-class beds and top-notch bathrooms are where the results truly shine. Anyone who stays here a single time won’t want to stay anywhere else.

Good to know
The hotel sits with quiet charm in the Sestiere Cannaregio, away from the usual tourist track. You can reach it quickly by taking the Alilaguna boat from the airport. It is, however, a bit of a trek to St. Mark’s Square and Rialto Bridge. But it has the ideal location to visit the 58th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, starting May 11th 2019. The staff at the Hotel Heureka is courteous to a fault, the rooms are first class, and the lovingly prepared breakfast is not to be missed.
