Scottish Highlands
Why Scottish Highlands?
Shortly after taking leave of a small village or town, you find yourself blissfully alone. A sweet silence pervades the Scottish Highlands: every now and then hikers and mountain bikers cross your path, otherwise it’s all yours. The valleys are wide and mostly deserted. The Glenfeshie Valley is gorgeous. There is much to discover and explore here: thundering waterfalls, bubbling streams and hidden lakes. One of them is the Loch an Eilein, an island with the ruins of a 13th century castle to explore. You can even stroll around the forest path on the shores of the island with an all-terrain pram.
Why is Scottish Highlands perfect for families?
For a secluded family holiday in nature, the Scottish Highlands are perfection. There are hardly any signs and scant few tourist attractions. The resort town of Aviemore should only be used for food shopping or for the chance to ride on a steam locomotive, the Strathspey Steam Railway – an unforgettable Jim Knopf experience for kids. The Loch Insh is a large, tranquil lake, perfect for swimming or water sports. The tiny town of Kingussie has a sensational butcher, where you can buy fresh provisions for the grill.
