Why Bay of Lübeck?

Lübeck itself is like stepping into a fairytale, a World Heritage Site steeped in history and culture, and with plenty of ancient buildings to fire up the kids’ imagination. But the real reason for coming here is the wider area, with its long, sweeping beaches, clean Baltic sea and charming places to stay and eat. 

Our favourite spot in the Bay of Lübeck to go with children is Timmendorf, a holiday hotspot since the turn of the 20th century, thanks to beautiful Timmendorfer Strand, a long swathe of pale sand and one of the most popular places on the Baltic Sea. In high summer, head to the more peaceful stretches at the end bay in the direction of Niendorf. Here, tree-lined avenues lead to the sea, with quaint little kiosks offering refreshments. Niendorf itself has a pretty harbour and a beautiful beach, decked out with typical Baltic sea chairs providing perfect sea views. 

At the far end of the Bay things become even more laid back at Haffkrug, one of the oldest seaside resorts in the area, and still a fishing village that has retained its slow pace of life.
