Why Bad Gastein?

With various new hotel openings and a vibrant art and gallery scene that peaks every summer at the renowned Sommer.frische.Kunst festival, Bad Gastein is increasingly on everyone's lips and is often referred to as the Berlin of the mountains. It is popular with artists and creative people, not least because of its rich cultural history and its morbid Grand Hotel charm, reminiscent of Wes Anderson's film The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The fragile yet charming Belle Epoque buildings tell of the rich history of the spa town, which is very imposingly situated and has an archaic waterfall rushing down into the valley through its centre. Bad Gastein is not a lovely mountain resort, but rather one that is in the process of fundamentally reinventing itself, making it a great destination for people and families with a pioneering spirit.

Why is Bad Gastein perfect for families?

Bad Gastein is a great destination for families in summer as well as in winter, as it offers a wide range of activities for children and adults. Its location, in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park , is perfect for small and large hikes, mountain biking and many other activities. Sportgastein is particularly popular with advanced skiers and of course the perfect starting point for ambitious hikes. As an alpine restaurant with a wonderful terrace, the Valeriehaus is the ideal starting point for excursions.

An ambitious tour, but particularly impressive, is the steep ascent from Kötschachtal up to Reedsee, one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps and still a real insider tip in the Gastein Valley. Alternatively, however, you can also take the lift to the Graukogel and continue from there.

Information on horseback riding excursions and many family-friendly activities can be found here.
